About Me

I’m a Xennial mom and software product manager living in the Boston area. I love thoughtful television shows with nuanced writing and authentic performances. I’m a former wannabe television writer who worked as a writers’ assistant on several network shows and went through a couple staffing seasons in the early 2000s. Ultimately, I decided that I didn’t want to stay in the entertainment industry and live on the opposite coast from my family. Do I regret it? Sometimes…but that’s a whole other post.

So after leaving the television industry in 2006 to pursue a “regular” career and have a family, I didn’t watch TV with any sort of intensity or regularity for a long time…nearly twenty years, to be honest! I was kinda busy with a silly little corporate job and young kids, and I never found a show that hooked me – shows like The X-Files, Everwood, The West Wing, and Sisters (yes, I was watching Sisters on Saturday nights in high school like a normal teenager!). The shows that made me want to be a TV writer in the late 90s/early 2000s didn’t seem to exist anymore.

Then I found Doc. What started as a random Netflix watch turned into a bit of a hyperfixation. Just ask my husband and kids who are so sick of me talking about Doc and Molly Parker! I have been a disgustingly loyal fan ever since, watching every episode several times, rewriting scenes in my head, analyzing characters, and talking about the show on social media.

Why do I love Doc so much? For starters, I relate to Amy on so many levels, and Molly plays her with such depth and care. I can’t properly summarize here why I love Amy so much, but I’ll write a whole post about it someday. I found the show just as I was coming out of a 15-year period of basically living in fight or flight mode. I had totally shut down the parts of me that love writing, characters, storytelling, and impossibly good television. Doc brought all that back and helped me feel like me again.

Doc also introduced me to Molly Parker. I had heard of her, of course, but didn’t know how incredible she is. At this point, I’ve watched almost everything she’s done (at least what’s publicly available), and I love how each of her performances is so different yet so authentic. Everyone who’s worked with her has said lovely things, and I love everything she’s ever said in interviews. She seems like a delightful person, and I am so happy for her success in Doc. It’s nice when the good guys win.

I mostly post my Doc takes on Twitter (ok fine, X). Click the icon below to find my profile, and follow the #doconfox hashtag for more fan opinions! Keep in mind that although I don’t always agree with the show’s creative choices, I haven’t cared this much about a show in decades and am so grateful that it lit some kind of spark in me. At its core, Doc is a masterpiece and I will be here until the end.
