Official Synopsis
While at the hospital recovering, Amy can’t help but insert herself into her roommate’s case. Meanwhile, all the other doctors and nurses have to adjust to the once formidable Chief now being the patient in the all-new “…Try Try Again” episode of Doc.
Timeline
4 days after the accident
What I'll Remember
Still in a head bandage and a hospital gown, Amy ask Michael what’s going on with her return to work, and Michael says it’s way too soon. It’s only been four days since the accident. He says Amy needs to heal first and then they’ll talk. Later in the episode, Amy barges into a hospital board meeting to ask for her job back as an attending physician, which was her level in 2016. She says hi to Max and says she’s glad he’s still here, so we know he has been at the hospital for at least eight years. Max says he’s the CEO now. Ultimately, the board denies Amy’s request for her employment to be considered.
While Amy is having a FMRI done, Amy and Gina look at pictures of them at a Skid Row and Kiss concert, probably decages ago. Then they look at a photo from Gina’s wedding. We find out that Gina got married to her first wife, Alice, in 2017, then married Wendy last year. Amy says they have a lot to catch up on.
We see a flashback to shortly after Danny died, described as seven years ago. Gina comforts Amy, trying to convince her to get out of bed and back to work because the world needs her as a doctor. We see Amy’s first day back at work, with Richard trying to tell Amy how sorry he is and that he’s available to pitch in if she needs more time at home. She cuts him off and says she doesn’t need more time, she needs him to stop talking.
Jake and Sonya argue about Amy after Jake finds out that Sonya corroborated stories about her bad behavior.
Amy has a roommate in the hospital, and Jake is her doctor. Amy gets a little too involved in her roommate’s case, leading to some cute interactions between Jake and Amy. Although she crosses the line between patient and doctor, Amy ultimately solves her roommate’s case in the end.
While Richard is talking to Jake about how Amy needs to stay away from his patient, a hospital staff member comes into the room and tells Richard that the Dixon autopsy results are in. Richard goes to talk to Dr Franco, the pathologist and medical examiner. She says everything seemed normal with the autopsy except one thing – beta blockers that weren’t in his chart. Richard says his chart wasn’t updated by accident and that he’ll take care of it.
Amy is ready to be discharged, and Gina takes her home. We find out that Amy has lived in her condo for five years, and that’s where she went when she moved out of Michael’s house. That means Amy and Michael separated two years after Danny died, so their divorce was likely finalized four years ago (referencing Season 1, Episode 1 when Michael said they got divorced four years ago).
Amy goes to Michael’s office to apologize for overstepping at the board meeting and pushing him too hard to get her job back. She asks Michael if he remembers her 40th birthday… He surprised her with a trip to the George Cinq (a hotel in Paris), and they never left the room. Amy tells him that trip was weeks ago in her memory, so she must be around 48 in at the time of the episode. Realizing that Amy is feeling nostaligic about him, Michael feels compelled to tell her that he’s married. Feeling guilty, he calls Max and says that they need to accomodate Amy’s disability and find a way to bring her back, or she could sue them. Amy comments that Michael is still a great guy.
