Season 2, Episode 7 – What I Did For Love

Joan is holding intern evaluations in the morning before normal work hours. Amy misses her evaluation and has no recollection of knowing about the meeting. We see Hannah texting Charlie and understand that they sent an email to Joan on Amy’s behalf, then deleted the email so Amy would miss the appointment. Hannah baits Amy, asking if her TMS treatments might be causing her to forget things. 

Amy and Gina talk about Gina getting a new therapist to deal with the aftermath of her patient’s suicide in the Season 1 finale. Amy says it’s been weeks since the train accident and Gina hasn’t dealt with it. They see Jake and Michael in the lobby engaged in a very friendly conversation. Amy says that she still can’t believe what Jake did for Michael (in Season 2, Episode 6). She says she has to stop punishing Jake because where they are is her fault. When Gina suggest that Amy could get out there and start dating, Amy says she already loves two men and doesn’t need any more. 

Amy and Jake share a couple of scenes throughout the episode, and you can see that they still love each other. She tells him that she wants things to be ok between them, at least at the hospital. He agrees. They talk about the negative side effects of her memory treatments. He says he hopes she isn’t working so hard to get her memories back for him. She says he is definitely part of the reason.

TJ goes viral as a “hot doc” on social media due to his patient who is a big influencer. TJ gets tons of follow requests and DMs from women. One of them is from Liz the nurse. Sonya says it’s definitely flirtatious and that Liz has been crushing on him for a while. Sonya loves the idea of TJ and Liz together.  

Amy and Gina treat a woman who is a repeat victim of domestic violence. Together, Amy, Gina, and Jake try to help the woman get away through an underground domestic violence organization. When the escape goes awry, Gina goes to the woman’s house and gets brutally attacked by her husband. Gina ends up at Westside as a patient, and Amy sits at her bedside with Wendy, Gina’s wife. We see what a real, true friendship Amy and Gina have. 

Through flashbacks, we find out why Gina takes the domestic violence case so seriously. Amy and Gina have lunch with Gina’s sister Dez four years ago. They talk about Dez’s new boyfriend. It’s clear that the three women are friends and that Amy is worried about Dez’s boyfriend. In another flashback, we get confirmation that Dez’s boyfriend is physically abusive. Gina didn’t see the signs until it was too late. Back in the present, Gina tells Amy that her sister ended up in jail for killing her boyfriend in self-defense. 

Charlie logs into Amy’s hospital portal account and changes the dose of her patient’s medication. It’s a potentially lethal dose. Hannah tells Joan about it. She also tells Joan that she thinks Amy was having a memory seizure that morning in the IMO when they were talking about the appointment Amy missed. Joan seems to believe Hannah and asks Michael if he knows anything about Amy’s memory seizures, mistakes, and lapses. Michael says he’s not the keeper of her secrets anymore. However, we know he actually is aware of the memory seizures because Amy told him in Season 2, Episode 4. 

Due to Amy’s recent cognitiive issues, Joan assigns her a new neurologist and won’t let Amy come back to work until she’s been properly assessed. Michael tells Amy he’s there for her if she needs him. She says she knows and looks truly appreciative. Jake and Hannah walk by Amy and give her their well wishes. As Hannah passes by, Amy has another memory flash of Brian Clark.
