What I'll Remember
Nora drops Michael off at work during a mass casualty event. It’s a train derailment caused by a suicide. Michael leaves his iPad behind in the car, and Nora sees a text from Amy implying that something happened between them last night (the ending of Season 1, Episode 9). Later that night, Nora comes to the hospital to confront Michael about the text. He tells her that Amy was in a crisis moment and admits that they kissed. Nora runs into Amy in the hospital hallway and tells her to stay away from Michael, saying that she helped raised Katie and loves Michael in ways that Amy never could. Sonya overhears their confrontation.
Still upset about Bill Dixon and TJ’s father, Amy is clearly struggling emotionally. Sonya tries to be kind to Amy, referencing how Amy was there for her (in Season 1, Episode 7), but Amy lashes out at Sonya. It’s harsh.
We find out that Gina’s patient caused the train derailment, leading to the mass casualty event.
During the mass casualty event, Richard mentions that TJ was a combat medic.
The morning after the train derailment, Amy is crying in her bathroom when Katie walks in. Amy tries to tell her that everything is ok, but Katie starts crying and says she can’t handle Amy shutting her out again. Amy tells her that even though they are doing better as mother and daughter, Amy screwed up everything else (by kissing Michael and killing Bill Dixon). Katie tells her that she has to own whatever she did.
Amy goes to visit Bill Dixon’s widow to apologize for her role in his death. Amy is surprised that Mrs Dixon doesn’t recognize her as one of her husband’s doctors. Mrs Dixon says that her husband has been gone over three months. Amy tells her that the beta blockers she prescribed caused his death. Mrs Dixon says that her husband was never on beta blockers, and she knows that for sure because she paid attention. Amy realizes that Richard lied to her.
Amy corners Liz and gets her to admit what really happened during Bill Dixon’s code. Max, Michael, and Amy confront Richard, and he’s immediately fired. Richard’s excuse is that he didn’t trust Amy to have his back and couldn’t be honest with her back then. After Richard gets fired, Max tells Amy that she shouldn’t have gone to see Bill Dixon’s widow and scolds her. She tells Max that she’s sick of dealing with his treatment of her and that he’ll be lucky if she considers being Chief again in a few years.
We see a flashback from four months ago between Richard and Bill Dixon. Richard gets a call about his son Lucas being arrested. Shortly after, Bill Dixon codes. Richard manages the code while he’s still frazzled due to Lucas’s mental health issues. He grabs the wrong medication from the crash cart, thus killing Bill Dixon.
Throughout the episode, Amy subtlely avoids Jake, presumably because of what happened between her and Michael. He notices it.
TJ runs up to Amy in the hospital and tells her that she was right about his dad. He has feeling back in his legs and will make a full recovery. Amy is overjoyed. TJ apologizes to Amy for how he treated her. She says nothing could ever change how she feels about him. TJ tells Amy and Jake that he’s taking everyone out for drinks tonight to celebrate.
At the end of the episode, most of the hospital staff are at a bar with TJ. Jake is there, too, but very distracted and looking at his phone. We see a text from Amy saying she’s working late. Sonya tells him that he shouldn’t be pining over someone who doesn’t really see him. Then she tells him about the confrontation she witnessed between Amy and Nora and says that Amy is probably with Michael right now. Jake tells her off and leaves the bar.
Jake goes to the hospital looking for Amy and walks in on an ambiguously intimate moment between Amy and Michael. It certainly looks like they are kissing.
