What I'll Remember
With her neuropsychiatrist hat on, Gina asks Amy some questions about how she’s doing. They talk about how Amy only dated one guy since Michael (Gina doesn’t know about Jake yet and neither does Amy). Gina asks if she’s noticed anything in her condo that seems off. Amy says there’s an energy powder in her kitchen that she absolutely detests. Gina said that tastes can change with a TBI (traumatic brain injury).
At the coffee cart in the hospital lobby, Sonya asks Jake how Amy hasn’t figured out that they were together. Jake tells her that he and Amy only used Whatsapp, and he guesses it’s not recoverable.
Sonya and Amy treat a patient who is donating bone marrow to his terminally older ill brother. He’s done it several times before. The sick brother doesn’t want his younger brother to keep going through so much pain and suffering to keep him alive, but their parents won’t listen. Sonya says she knows what it’s like not to be heard by the people who love you, foreshadowing the Season 1, Episode 7 storyline about rape and the way her parents reacted to her sexual assault. While comforting the patient’s dad, Amy tells him that Danny was diagnosed with a heart condition when he was five and there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for more time with him, so he’s not going to get any judgment from her.
In flashbacks, Nora tells Michael that she’s pregnant. He looks shocked and says, “I thought this was impossible.” Nora says she did, too. We aren’t sure why they thought it was impossible, but it sets up that the pregnancy wasn’t planned. Later, Michael surprises Nora with flowers to apologize for his reaction and reaffirm his commitment to her and their family.
Michael goes to Gina’s office and tells her that Nora is having a boy. Gina tells Michael that he has to tell Amy about the baby soon. She says she understands how hard it must be for Michael now that Amy is looking at him with love again for the first time in several years. He doesn’t disagree with that assessment.
Jake tells Gina that he and Amy were together for five months before the accident. Gina is in disbelief because she thought Amy told her everything. She says that Amy woke up six weeks ago in love with her husband, and maybe Jake should let that play out. Jake says maybe Amy needs to know there’s something good on the horizon.
Later in the episode, Amy mentions that she crashed the board meeting five weeks ago, so that would have been about a week after the accident.
Amy invites Katie to dinner on “Thursday,” which helps ground the timeline of Season 1, Episode 6.
At the end of the day, Amy and Jake eat wedding cake from his patient’s hospital room wedding. This seems like the perfect opportunity for Jake to tell her that they were together before the accident. You can see that he is about to tell her, but Amy interrupts with a story about her wedding to Michael and how excited she was to start her life with him. Jake backs off and says nothing.
Later that night, Michael knocks on Amy’s condo door and tells her that Nora is having a baby. Amy asks how far long, and Michael says six months. Amy asks if they ever tried to have another child after Danny died, and Michael says no, but that was a long time ago… Amy looks devastated but handles it well.
